Psychologists have long recognized the importance of self-awareness. How does being self-aware better prepare you for enhancing international relationships? Below is a list of questions for you to consider before you begin your foreign travel:
Are you an ambassador (of your business? Your community? Your country?)? If so, how?
Who are you representing?
What gives you license to act the way you do? (or some way to incorporate the word license as a keyword)
What does your demeanor convey?
What does your appearance communicate? Are you dressing to stand out or fit in?
How do you wish to be perceived?
Do you know the local customs? If so, how do you honor and respect them? If no, what does that say about you and the perception you are trying to convey?
Have you done your research on local business etiquette and protocol? If no, why not?
In what ways are you open-minded? What does this look like in practice?
What do you want the locals to know about you, your culture, your business and why?
What does the term “cultural sensitivity” mean to you? What does this look like in the way you conduct yourself on a day-to-day basis?
